I was so lucky to be the second shooter at this wedding for Quyen of June and Jae Photography last month. When she emailed me the details and said the bride’s inspiration was glitter, gold and Beyonce, I was SOLD. It was my last wedding of 2013 and it felt like the perfect end to my season. Kolu and Ray were married on a rainy October afternoon at the St. John’s Evangelist Episcopal church in St. Paul. As a second shooter, I spent most of the afternoon with the groom, Ray, which was a treat–I usually prioritize the bride when I’m the primary shooter, so it was great to change it up. Ray was cool and collected, and it was fun to watch him just relax with the guys before the day got hectic.
If you’re anything like me you might wonder what the boys do for all those hours before the ceremony. Well, it’s a whole lot of this:
Glitter, gold and Beyonce? Check, check and check. I loved these details!
Kolu and Ray’s 2 month old baby daughter in the photo above. How cute is she?!
I arrived to the reception site early to shoot details and cocktail hour, and was told that the grand march was “going to be BIG.” I’ve seen plenty of cute and clever ways a wedding party will enter the reception, but I have NEVER seen a bridal party get down like this before. When it was time for Kolu and Ray to make their entrance, the guests, in keeping with the Liberian tradition, lined the aisle to place colorful patterned cloth at their feet for them to walk across until they reached the dance floor. The music, the dancing–it was incredible.
Smiley, happy brides are the best. Kolu is so, so beautiful.
Thank you Quyen, for a wonderful experience and opportunity! I’m bummed that we didn’t meet sooner, but I’m so excited to watch your business flourish in my home state. Wisconsin won’t know what hit them 😉
